Gaddi is Gone

RPCV Ron Tschetter (India 1966-68) is getting high marks in his first few weeks as the new Peace Corps Director, mostly because he's not Gaddi Vasquez. Vasquez has gone off to be the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Agencies for Food and Agriculture in Rome. That's a nice two-year gig Bush gave him before they both exit the government.

Now that Gaddi is out of the building, PC/HQ staffers are telling tales of what a piece a work he was while at the agency. For example, Gaddi never traveled anywhere unless he was supported by a gang of staffers who ran interference for him, carried his bags, and led the way. And he always insisted when he was overseas that he stay on the top floor of whatever hotel he was in. Also, no other staff member could stay on the same floor. I'm not sure if he sat with his back to a wall when he ate out, but I guess he knew how much he was disliked within the Peace Corps and wasn't taking chances. After all, Gaddi knows how to protect himself. His whole career was in law enforcement until he gave money to the Bush campaign and got the Peace Corps job as a payoff.
